Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, therapeutic massage technique with a whole-body focus. This course develops your understanding of the lymphatic system and the precise, feather-light movements used to encourage the natural flow of lymph. Primary focus: the whole body, with particular attention to the neck, underarms and groin as part of an overall lymphatic drainage sequence. Technique: light, rhythmic, slow and gentle movements that follow the natural flow of the lymphatic system. MLD uses a different pressure and approach from firmer sculpting or body-contouring massage. Treatment aims and benefits: support lymphatic flow, help manage swelling and fluid retention, and promote relaxation and general wellbeing. Consultation, contraindications and the limits of a therapist's scope of practice are central to treatment planning. Ideal clients: people seeking gentle lymphatic support, help with fluid-related swelling or general wellbeing. Recovery or post-surgery treatments require appropriate clinical guidance and must remain within your qualifications and insurance cover. Typical treatment session: 60–90 minutes, often as part of an individual treatment plan. This is the treatment length; the training course remains one day. Results and expectations: some clients may feel lighter or less swollen after a session, with benefits building over time. Outcomes vary and should be discussed during consultation. Best suited to: gentle whole-body lymphatic support, wellbeing and appropriately assessed recovery care. Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is a separate course focused on targeted body contouring. Entry requirement: you must be a qualified massage therapist to enrol on this course.
